Now
I call Raleigh, North Carolina home. Some of the things I’ve been doing or that have happened include:
- Learning from, playing with, and taking care of my 11-month-old daughter.
- Listening to good (and sometimes not as good) sci-fi novels at night. Currently listening to Children of Time. I have also listened to many books by Jeremy Robinson, which constantly remind me of sci-fi action movies.
- Rehabbing my back after experiencing low back pain and sciatica for almost two years. This means doing physical therapy exercises most days, walking a lot, and generally trying to stay active.
- I play pickleball when I can (almost every week for just a few games). Finding pickleball has been like finding true love, and I’m committed to this game and to becoming a high-level player. On the pickleball court, all my cares and worries cease and I’m totally in flow and often filled with the sheer joy and delight of moving my body and stimulating my mind in this way.
- My grandfather passed away late last year, shortly followed by my niece. Our daughter (our first child) was born in January, which brought a lot of joy and a lot of work into our lives. It’s been a hard year, but one filled with growth as well. I’ve learned a lot about my own flaws, since they’ve shown up more starkly as we’ve been pushed to our limits. I’ve been going to therapy and really working on being less stressed and more generous and kind, even in my worst moments.
